SERVICE LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS empower members to lead and serve by cultivating leadership skills, developing friendships and performing community service. Programs include
- K-Kids (Elementary Schools),
- Builder’s Club (Middle Schools)
- Key Club (High School)
- Aktion Club (Adults with disabilities).
TERRIFIC KIDS & TERRIFIC TEENS are student recognition programs promoting character development, self-esteem, and perseverance. TERRIFIC stands for Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive, and Capable. School Principals and Teachers are deeply involved in ensuring the most appropriate students are selected for recognition.
TERRIFIC TEACHER celebrates the dedicated efforts of our valued educators by recognizing the Teachers of the Year throughout St. Bernard Parish Public and Private schools.
READY FOR READING PROGRAM seeks to support children early in their literacy journey in achieving key literacy milestones by providing increased access to books, creating engaging reading experiences, and providing incentives later to continue reading at a high level. Ready for Reading supports children through a variety of initiatives such as Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (newborn until the age of 5), Kiwanis Read Around the World (Pre-K 3 & 4 students), the Reading Incentive Program (Elementary Schools), the Summer Library Reading partnership with the St. Bernard Parish Library (formally called Read to Ride), Little Free Libraries (also known as Little Community Libraries) around the Parish, and more.
SAMMIE CATALANOTTO LIFESAVER PROGRAM honors members of the St. Bernard Parish Fire Department and St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office who go above and beyond in the call of duty, exhibiting heroic actions as first responders to save lives.
KREWE OF MAJESTIC MIRACLES invites adults and children with special needs to be celebrated in true Carnival style at a Mardi Gras Ball just for them. Complete with a royal court, the Mardi Gras Ball is a growing tradition centered on inclusion, dignity, community and fun!
KEY LEADER is a weekend leadership program for high school and 8th-grade students in the Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee District, focused on service leadership and personal growth. The program emphasizes five principles - integrity, personal growth, respect, community, and pursuit of excellence - through experiential workshops and team-building activities.
Other programs include Scholarship opportunities, Coats for Kids, Trunk-or-Treat events, serving at the Special Olympics, and many other opportunities to volunteer as a group in our wonderful community!
