The St. Bernard Kiwanis Foundation recently participated in supporting the Car Charity’s Recycle Rides Program.   This Program is a national community non-profit service project whereby members of the national Auto Body Council repair and donate recycled vehicles to deserving citizens in local communities.

The Foundation was contacted by Calvin "Denny" Schenck, Owner of Car Craft Inc., and was asked to participate in the Program. Denny requested the Foundation to identify deserving candidates who reside in St. Bernard and Plaquemine Parishes.   Kiwanis members Patrice Cusimano, Kim Duplantier, Robby Showalter and Danny Bourgeois took action, sought nominations and identified 6 families as potential recipients.  The Car Charities gifted the six families with their cars at their annual convention which was held at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA from October 11-13, 2012.

Kim Duplantier, who attended the Luncheon when the families were gifted their cars said, "To witness the joy on the faces of the families was heart warming and priceless.  To participate was a deep sense of fulfillment and it definitely was a life changing experience for all."

The Kiwanis Foundation is committed to continually support this event.  Denny appreciated the Foundation’s role and will request our assistance in the future.

TERRIFIC KIDS
Terrific Kids is a student recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem, and perseverance. Students work with their classroom teacher and establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance, or schoolwork. Students then work toward achieving the goal during a specific time period. The teachers and principal determine the best schedule for recognition.
